Interesting articles on suicide prevention and self-harm recovery.

Today we received two separate stories from the source ‘The Irish Times’ around the topics suicide prevention and self-harming.

The first story, which you will find here,The Irish Times 13.03.2018 The Kilkenny Taxi Driver is about a ‘Taxi Watch suicide prevention drive in Kilkenny by a Taxi man named Derek Devoy. People who join the group complete a HSE course to give them skills to talk to someone attempting suicide. The group has been extremely successful, and has saved 200 lives in Kilkenny alone since it’s been set up. The article includes an interview with Derek Devoy himself.

The second story, which you will find here,The irish Times 13.03.2018 Self Harm (1)is a personal account of  Jenny Groves who began self-harming at the age of 13 and continued for 30 years, and kept it a complete secret. She eventually opened up to her family, and was determined to stop self-harming.  In this article she talks about her own personal recovery to which she hopes will help others.
